Termites:

Do termites really cause that much damage?
Subterranean termites given time and left untreated can cause very serious damage. The termites will keep going back to different areas within the building to eat, which causes damage.

My neighbors have termites. Does this mean I have them too?
Termites spread most commonly underground. If your home is doesn’t have termites now, it could become infested by termites that are nearby. Allied Pest Management will let you know about treatment options, if needed.

Termites Cause Millions of Dollars in Damage to Structures each Year!

Since subterranean termites are silent invaders, they are often undetected until damage has occurred. Always searching for wood to feed upon, they work relentlessly. Termites multiply by the thousands and if left undetected, will cause major structural damage.

All types of structures have termite infestations. No structure, not even brick or concrete slab construction, is immune to their insidious appetite. Termites can enter through a crack as small as 1/64 of an inch.
Preventative termite control is the only sure way to prevent termites from entering your home.

The first visible sign of termites may be a “swarm”
Although termites swarm in the spring, they are active year round, foraging and feeding.

What does a termite look like?
Termite workers light cream colored insects about 1/4 inch or less in length. Sometimes people called white ants, but they are easy to recognize. Ants usually are dark red or black and termites are almost white. Ants are slender in the middle part between the head and body. Termites will look like fat white ants.

Are they ants or termites? How can I tell the difference?

  • To distinguish termites from ants, examine the insects’ wings, waist and antennae. While both insects have two pairs of wings, termite wings are relatively equal in size. Ant wings tend to be longer in front and shorter in back.
  • Ants also have a narrow, pinched waist, with three separate body parts. Termites’ waists are thicker and less distinct.
  • Ants’ antennae are elbowed, Termites’ are straight.

We recently had a mud tunnel on the dry wall side of an exterior wall. After knocking it off we saw a pinhole in the dry wall. Then the mud tunnel came back. Is that from termites?
The subterranean termite causes this type of tunnel. Obviously the termites are living within the property since the tube returned.

The wood trim on our garage door looks rotted. Is that from the rain or termites?
This may be wood decay fungi damage as a result of moisture in the wood. When you repair it, keep the area caulked and painted to prevent a reoccurrence.

What do termites eat?
Strangely termites are able to eat wood. The bacteria, protozoa and microbes that live inside the termites stomach allows them to digest cellulose.

How long do termites live?
A worker termite may live one to two years. A queen termite may live for decades.

Can termites eat through concrete?
Termites do not eat concrete, but they can get through small cracks in the concrete. In areas where two slabs of concrete meet you have a tiny space which termites can get through.

Ants:

Do Carpenter Ants cause damage like termites?
The carpenter ant needs a constant moisture source to live indoors. For this reason they are most often outdoors in the trees.

I see something that looks like flying ants, what are they?
Ants and termites both develop wings. Carpenter ants with wings are about 3/4-inch in length. Termites and other ants are usually 1/2-inch in length or larger. It’s best to have Allied Pest Control make a positive identification.

What are Fire Ants?
Fire ants are red ants, which bite. Your neighbors may have colonies that can move back to your yard. Regular fire ant treatment is necessary to keep ants to a minimum.

Cockroaches:

How do I get rid of cockroaches?
Bait stations will only have some success on cockroaches if placed properly. Bait stations should be combined with treatment at the source of the problem, within your walls. Knowing how and where to treat for cockroaches is our job.

Fleas

My dogs have fleas what should I do?
Flea control requires thorough vacuuming the home, treatment of pets, and treatment of area where the pets live. It’s best to perform all treatments at the same time. We have the proper chemicals to use that won’t harm the pets but will stop the fleas.
